Integrated sustainable process for polyhydroxyalkanoates production from lignocellulosic waste by purple phototrophic bacteria

نویسندگان

چکیده

Purple phototrophic bacteria (PPB) showed an enormous potential for polyhydroxyalkanoates (PHA) production using the hydrolysate from lignocellulosic waste as feedstock. Thermal hydrolysis pretreatment was carried out at three different temperatures (120, 150, and 180°C) aiming to improve biodegradability of waste. After this pretreatment, two streams are collected: a solid liquid fraction. The anaerobic digestion process pretreated fraction 180°C increased its extent by 31% compared untreated biomass, yielding 210 ± 10 L CH4 kg−1 VS even when removed. On photoheterotrophic fraction, PPB were able remove up 55% COD during batch operation, showing peaks PHA yield 21 wt.%. treatment obtained high (T ˃ 120°C) reduces biomass growth consumption efficiency, thus productivity, with no effect over specific activity yield, indicating limitation lack nutrients (N P). A preliminary economical assessment indicates suitable economic viability based on energetic autarchy process. This study pioneered PPB-based biorefinery residues aligned within bioeconomy strategy European Union.

Polyhydroxyalkanoates production from waste biomass

Polyhydroxyalkanoates (PHAs) is a group of biopolymers that are extensively researched for such purpose due to the biocompatibility with mammal tissue and similar properties with conventional plastic. However, commercialization of PHA is impended by its high total production cost, which half of it are from the cost of pure carbon source feedstock. Thus, cheap and sustainable feedstocks are pref...

With the exception of nitrogenase, molybdenum is present in a diverse, but coherent group of enzymes which contain a pterin molybdenum cofactor (Moco) as a prosthetic group [l]. This group of enzymes, known as the molybdenum oxotransferases and hydroxylases, carry out a two-electron oxidation-reduction reaction which is linked to oxygen atom transfer to or from a substrate. This is illustrated ...

Bacteriocin from Purple Nonsulfur Phototrophic Bacteria, Rhodobacter capsulatus

To find whether productivity of bacteriocin is controlled between different species under unusual cultural conditions, we used Rhodobacter capsulatus ATCC 17016 as a producer and Rhodopseudomonas palustris ATCC 17003 as an indicator. Rhodobacter capsulatus was cultured under aerobic conditions in the dark in Lascelles medium containing 0.3% Triton X-100. As a result, bacteriocin productivity in...
